The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Anger Regarding Size Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all users about the change.
Social Media Backlash
Countless users and merchants are posting online claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to review their products and manually change the size if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Updates
Earlier, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Manual Updates
A different user, from Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The platform boasts over 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
